Haha, this resonates on so many levels... I've really struggled with trying to write fantasy, because I truly feel like most everything has be done in some way, shape, or form. The things that engage me are the same things that I would hate to write about. So I differ to braver, more dedicated folks like you. There is no way I'm every going to complete that 50k challenge, there is too much agony in my process. Surrender myself to Jesus perhaps and maybe the rest will happen.
Anyway I'm excited to read horselords 2.0. Please do, in fact, write a post on your approach for gathering historical info.
In my opinion, there are no rules and nothing matters. Books, like any form of art, is a purely subjective experience. So write whatever you feel like. If you're worried about it being "done before," just think of how many vampire books are out there already and people still write more. Nothing new under the sun--the difference is how YOU tell the story, your execution of the tropes, that'll make any idea unique. And yeah, I'll be writing about my inspirations (historical, music, etc) somewhere down the line. I appreciate the comment, thanks so much.
Also, everyone thinks they can't do nanowrimo until they do. 50k in 30 days is a lot, but it's more about establishing a habit. Give it a shot!
