A Mechanical Pulp photography post, again
I just can’t help myself. I feel the need to share more pictures with you guys. Yes, I should be writing! But this is fun!
It’s tough trying to pick which to include—I could easily send out three emails, so I had to be selective, and hopefully your email isn't truncated.
The mall shots were my first attempt, since getting back into film photography, at hand-held indoors, no flash, and actually I’m surprised I got any usable shots at all, so that’s cool!
These were all shot on my Pentax K1000, 28mm f2.8 lens, with each film stock noted under the photo. Lomography’s Lady Grey, according to internet speculation, might actually be repackaged Fomapan 400—just like Agent Shadow might be Fomapan, or Kentmere, or something. Popho Luminar is actually Kodak Aerocolor IV, just like FlicFilm Electra or Santacolor 100, all respools of an aerial surveillance film, very cool—well actually, it leans very orange from the lab scans. See, there are only so many film coating plants still kicking, so there’s lots of rebranding going on, for fun, for profit. The only film stock that isn’t a rebrand in this bunch is ORWO NC400, it’s an actual colour stock not made by Kodak or Fujifilm! For those not up to date on the colour film industry, it’s pretty much just Kodak, and that’s it. North American Fujifilm is even made by Kodak, now. I really get the feeling Fuji wants out of the film game, but apparently they’re shipping out made-in-Japan stuff again soon, but I don’t know how long that’ll last. Black and white has more competition, but with colour… If Kodak goes under, that’ll be a sad, sad day.
On the bright side, with ORWO and more recently Harman giving colour film manufacturing a go, that’ll provide a bit more variety for photographers! Also: Lomography’s Color ‘92 might be a repackage of NC400, but I’m not 100% sure on that—Lomography likes to keep that stuff all secret, apparently. But, who cares! I want an excuse to leave the house once in a while! I like having fun! I want to discover a favourite film stock! I’m not a professional! I’m just foolin’ around! I am not a number, I am a free man! Woman! I might as well be the Great Cornholio if I don’t get to the pictures already!
